Chatting up strangers

I read once that you can determine the future success of an 8 year old by conducting a simple experiment:

-Get two cookies, preferably the kind the 8-year-old prefers.

-Sit the 8-year-old down and ask her or him to choose: One cookie right now, handed to them for them to eat. OR they can wait 30 minutes and they get TWO cookies.

Supposedly, the kids that wait will be more successful than the kids who want the cookie now.

I read that somewhere once.

But I also think that I read somewhere about that experiment being bullshit.

It probably is bullshit.

And what I am about to suggest may fall into that category, but I don’t think so.

I believe that I can determine the success of a Snooze franchisee with one simple question.

First, let me set the scene: You are at a bar, it’s not crowded but busy enough to have almost every bar stool taken. You are at the bar. By yourself.

Do you chat up the strangers who sit next to you? If the answer is yes, I like your chances to make a lot of money. If the answer is no, I have fears about your ability to sell sleep.

It’s not scientific but it also isn’t very challenging to see where I am going with this.

Yesterday, I was at a bar watching my favorite football team (Minnesota Vikings) take on the Buffalo Bills. A dude sat next to me. I asked him if he was a Vikings fan….that lead to “where are you from………….” To “what do you do?...............to “I know a company that can help.”

In other words, I found a lead for a marketing agency, a company that operates out of the same building as Snooze.

If was a Snooze franchisee, I would have asked him what he sleeps on, how he sleeps etc.

If you are the type of person who likes to talk to strangers, ask them questions, and yes, always be selling something, then I’ve got some excellent news for you.
